DECISIONES – A System to Optimize Energy Purchasing with Big Data
Aduriz Energía uses a decision-making system to optimize energy purchasing through Big Data. This technological solution analyzes demand forecasts, enhancing competitiveness and reducing operational costs.
The project stems from the need of ADURIZ ENERGÍA SLU, an energy trading SME based in Las Merindades (Burgos), to position itself in the field of intelligent energy supply to rural populations.
Problem the SICD aims to solve:
Changing regulations, national energy scarcity, and the creation of an energy market where companies compete daily on energy prices led Aduriz Energía to seek effective tools for analyzing energy demand. This would allow them to optimize decision-making and avoid overpayments due to excess or shortfall in their energy purchases.
This tool had to be based on four key factors in the Spanish energy market:
- Network access tariffs
- Electricity price in the daily market
- Other system costs
- The energy supplier’s margin
Additionally, the growth in new customers for this SME means dealing with an increasing number of data sources daily, which becomes impossible to continuously analyze and evaluate manually.
In conclusion, the SME needs a technological solution capable of analyzing the necessary data from both the energy market and customer demand forecasts, providing a decision-support system to adapt to new market niches and increase competitiveness.
Project Resolution Goals:
The specific objectives of the project are:
- Design a decision-support system for energy purchasing, based on predetermined information sources provided by Aduriz, integrated into a Big Data platform, ensuring real-time decision-making that guarantees supply, maximizes profits, and maintains service quality (QoS).
- Equip the system with the necessary intelligence to generate the best tariff offers according to each daily time slot based on marginal costs.
- Introduce key parameters to the system, such as intraday market negotiation, where excess or shortage of energy can be bought or sold.
- Develop algorithms capable of predicting and learning from demand operations with a minimum horizon of 24 hours, allowing prediction models to forecast the energy needed to reduce purchasing excess or shortfall.
- Implement the models in a Big Data platform and facilitate system scaling.
- Develop an adequate interface to integrate data sources and enable decision-making execution.
- Create a real-time data visualization system for consumption, supply, readings, incidents, and tools for end-user inclusion as an active participant.
- Integration with remote metering systems.
