SYNCROBOT – Research in mobile, collaborative, and immersive robotics with ultra-low latency for advancing collaborative environments in advanced manufacturing and unattended scenarios.

Project Description:

The SYNCROBOT project aims to advance mobile, collaborative, and immersive robotics with ultra-low latency, applied both to industrial environments with operators and to unattended scenarios. Its proposal focuses on immersive robot teleoperation, integrating cutting-edge technologies such as AI-assisted human control, binaural audio, and XR (AR, VR, and MR). The goal is to achieve safer, more efficient, and more accessible remote human–robot collaboration, overcoming the limitations of traditional video interfaces.

Main Objective:

The main goal of this project is research into the design and development of an immersive, mobile, and collaborative robotic solution for use in intelligent manufacturing, specifically in relation to robot teleoperation.

Specific Objectives of the Project:

The specific objectives of SYNCROBOT are:

  • SO1: Design and development of a cross-platform immersive headset
  • SO2: Implementation of stereoscopic video encoding on FPGA hardware and embedded systems
  • SO3: Integration of binaural audio
  • SO4: Integration of collaborative arms controlled through haptic interfaces
  • SO5: Real-time teleoperation experiments using private 5G SA architectures
  • SO6: Development of Reinforcement Learning–based agents for autonomous robot control
  • SO7: Development of priority and prevalence policies for integrating actions between the operator and the AI agent
  • Project Duration:

January 2025 – December 2027
