PROSUMES – Intelligent Optimization of Energy Networks
PROSUMES optimizes energy self-consumption through an integrated Intelligent System that manages local energy networks to facilitate shared self-consumption in neighborhoods, industrial areas, and building collectives. It addresses the challenges of storage and overproduction of renewable energy by offering an efficient and local solution.
PROSUMES : Integrated System for Energy Self-consumption
Development of an integrated and intelligent energy management system, covering everything from measurement to efficient energy management and transactions, which can be implemented locally in neighborhoods, industrial areas, groups, or building collectives, etc., that have renewable energy sources and are interested in shared self-consumption of this renewable energy generation.
¿What is PROSUMES?
The development of an intelligent and locally integrated system that, based on the type of renewable energy source and the interest in shared self-consumption, fosters the creation of energy communities with demand aggregation systems and local energy markets.
Problem they aim to solve: Energy self-consumption in communities
Producing and consuming one’s own electricity is the core of self-consumption. However, today, the consumer is no longer isolated as an independent entity. It is now possible to group together to improve demand management and promote self-consumption.
Challenges of self-consumption and PROSUMES solutions
The use of renewable energy sources is currently limited by storage problems, but also by overproduction because renewable energies are generated regardless of consumption needs.
The idea is that all devices consuming or generating energy are connected not only to the electricity grid but also to a virtual Blockchain network where transactions are trustworthy and immutable. This will help focus on tasks like network congestion relief, resolving technical congestion, or increasing grid flexibility.
Based on the energy balance, the amount to be charged or credited for each user will be calculated. The energy allocation process and billing will rely on Blockchain technology to ensure all transactions are secure. Payments can be made via tokens generated by the ecosystem or using local currency, depending on the group’s preferences.
Objectives of PROSUMES:
The goal is to develop an integrated and intelligent energy system that includes energy measurement, efficient energy management, and transactions that can be implemented locally in neighborhoods, industrial areas, groups of buildings, etc., which have renewable energy sources and are interested in shared self-consumption of this renewable energy generation, becoming part of a local energy community. To achieve this, the following actions are necessary:
Technologies and Strategies Used in PROSUMES
- Design hardware and software for demand aggregation solutions to help make the system more flexible.
- Evaluate the energy balance of users by comparing the renewable energy produced and consumed.
- Promote secure transactions between users through Blockchain technologies.
- Storage elements to convert non-manageable energy into manageable energy.
- Research LPWA technologies to incorporate digital ports into Smart Meters for each case and integrate IoT systems into Blockchain architectures.
- Develop an application for users to track and consult their consumption and production data, as well as the results of their transactions, and receive notifications of the operations performed. This ensures all processes in the value chain are covered: generation, consumption, internal and external exchanges according to defined rules and strategies, and billing.
Expected Results of PROSUMES
- Total demand management of the aggregation, enabling savings in demanded power and energy costs.
- Prediction of surplus energy to offer flexibility services during certain times of the day.
- Determination of optimal balancing times to introduce exceptional loads.
- Identification of each agent in the aggregation with their consumption, storage, and kWh generation.
Users will transition from passive actors to active consumers, becoming “prosumers” (producers + consumers) and playing a key role in the energy transition. This will also require greater involvement from institutions and companies in energy projects carried out through the development of energy communities or aggregations.
