LUXIA – Intelligent adaptation of lighting and user experience in automotive interiors
Project Description
The LUXIA project addresses the growing need to humanise the vehicle interior, in line with global trends towards smarter, more personalised and occupant-centred mobility. The challenge it seeks to address is the lack of solutions capable of dynamically and meaningfully adapting interior lighting in real time to the user’s physical and emotional state.
In addition, LUXIA addresses strategic challenges related to safety and health. Appropriate lighting can help reduce visual fatigue, improve concentration and support circadian rhythms, particularly during night-time or prolonged driving. Enhancing perceived comfort, from both a functional and emotional perspective, is also considered essential to improving the overall in-vehicle experience.
General Objective
The overall objective of the LUXIA project is to research, develop and integrate an emotionally intelligent interior lighting system for vehicle environments, capable of dynamically adapting to environmental conditions and the physiological and emotional state of occupants. The system aims to transform interior lighting into an active tool for improving comfort, safety and user experience, addressing mobility from an emotional and personalised perspective.
Emotional lighting represents a new paradigm in automotive interior design, considering light not only as a functional element but also as a key factor in regulating mood, environmental perception and cognitive well-being. Through the continuous monitoring of biometric and environmental parameters, combined with the application of intelligent algorithms, LUXIA will enable the creation of personalised lighting environments that dynamically respond to occupants’ real-time needs.
Specific Objectives
- Design and adapt a user experience (UX) simulator for realistic driving environments, including daytime and night-time scenarios, traffic situations, fatigue, environmental changes and varying external lighting conditions, such as direct sunlight, low-light conditions and tunnels.
- Develop artificial intelligence algorithms to analyse and correlate biometric and environmental data with emotional parameters and lighting configurations, enabling autonomous, real-time adaptation of the lighting system.
- Lead the design of rigorous experimental protocols in collaboration with Antolin and contribute to the selection of user profiles based on technical and usability criteria.
- Conduct complementary hormonal analyses, such as cortisol or oxytocin, through the collection and processing of biological samples, with the aim of objectively quantifying the emotional response induced by lighting.
