HYPEM 5.0 – Digitalisation, Modelling and Simulation for the Efficient and Sustainable Operation of a PEM Electrolyser
The production of renewable hydrogen through electrolysis is one of the key technologies for moving towards a more sustainable and decarbonised energy model. In this context, the HYPEM 5.0 project develops new digitalisation, modelling and simulation solutions to optimise the operation of PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) electrolysers, improving their energy efficiency and performance in industrial environments.
The project focuses on developing digital tools capable of representing the behaviour of the electrolyser in real time, facilitating decision-making, reducing energy consumption and increasing the reliability of green hydrogen production.
Through this initiative, ITCL Centro Tecnológico contributes to the development of innovative technologies for the energy transition, promoting the deployment of renewable hydrogen as a strategic energy vector for industry.
HYPEM 5.0 Project Objectives
The main objective of HYPEM 5.0 is to develop an advanced digitalisation and simulation environment for PEM electrolysers, enabling the optimisation of renewable hydrogen production through predictive models and intelligent tools.
To achieve this, the project focuses on:
- Developing digital models of PEM electrolyser behaviour.
- Optimising the energy efficiency of the electrolysis process.
- Simulating different operating conditions to improve system performance.
- Reducing the energy consumption associated with renewable hydrogen production.
- Improving the reliability, sustainability and safety of industrial processes.
- Promoting the digitalisation of hydrogen technologies.
Expected Impact
The results of HYPEM 5.0 will contribute to the development of new technological solutions for the efficient production of renewable hydrogen, boosting industrial competitiveness and supporting the decarbonisation of production processes.
The project will:
- Improve the efficiency of PEM electrolysers.
- Reduce the energy costs associated with electrolysis.
- Promote the integration of digital technologies into the hydrogen industry.
- Drive innovation in the energy sector.
- Strengthen the transition towards a low-carbon economy.
