ROBCHECK-BUILD: Robots for Construction Monitoring

Project description:

ROBCHECK-BUILD is researching robots for construction monitoring. The project aims to make construction more efficient and sustainable by using robotics and digital tools to monitor work on site.

It will investigate whether robots can carry out two types of monitoring during construction: checking the quality of completed work and tracking progress against the construction plan.

Overall objective:

ROBCHECK-BUILD aims to demonstrate how robots and digital support systems can be integrated into construction workflows. The project will test their use on real construction sites to assess build quality and monitor how work is progressing.

This research draws on ITCL’s work in intelligent robotics and digital transformation.

Specific objectives:

  • Technical: Develop methods for integrating mobile robots into construction monitoring; produce guidance on selecting suitable robots; train quadrupeds and drones; improve their perception, navigation and integration with building information modelling (BIM); and validate their use through pilot projects.

  • Socioeconomic: Encourage the adoption of robotics and digital tools in construction to make better use of people and materials, reduce waste and environmental impact, and improve both the technical quality and perceived quality of buildings.
  • Strategic: Strengthen collaboration between the AEICE and BUILDINN clusters and their members to support the transformation of the construction sector.

Project duration:

1 August 2025 to 10 July 2026.
