Due to the large energetic impact of cooling systems in this sector, effective and realistic energy saving strategies are needed.

The project will select a representative sample of 25 refrigeration plants covering all the different type of climate zones in Europe, in order to analyze the impact of working conditions and control strategies on their energy consumption. Cost effective improvement measures will be implemented, tested and validated, and simulation models established.

A Good Practice Guide will be produced for helping the food and drink sector to improve the energy efficiency of its refrigeration systems. The Guide will be disseminated to the whole sector across Europe, via the food and drink industry associations.

Food and drink companies, technology companies, and OEMs and industry associations such as the IIR will participate to the project, which will be coordinated by the Instituto Tecnológico de Castilla y León, Spain.
